Corona-virus Update From Costa Rica

The government of Costa Rica still has most of the restrictions in place and in some cases has extended some of the restrictions. For example, our borders will remain closed here until May 15. Our visas were set to expire on May 24th, but Costa Rica has issued an extension until July 17th. That is good news and we are thankful for the extension, but we are uncertain if we will still be able to drive after May 24th. In order to legally drive here we need to have a valid entry stamp and that stamp is only good for 90 days. This issue has not been clearly answered so we would appreciate your prayers that the government would still allow us to drive on our original entry stamp.

Food Box Giveaways

Just like in the United States and other countries all around the world, Costa Rican families have been affected with loss of jobs. We had been praying about how we could help out in this time and we felt like God was telling us that we were to start giving food away to needy families. We really felt like we were to give to those who had the most need, but we were not sure how to go about finding these families, so we asked God to show us what to do.

Since we last wrote, we have seen a continue increase of positive COVID 19 cases. We have gone from 113 confirmed cases to 693 confirmed cases. Of those cases, 242 people have recovered and 6 people have died which means currently we have 445 active cases.

The first thing that He showed us was a ministry called Hidden Treasures. This ministry is run by some friends of ours and they had posted that they knew of some families that were in desperate need of food. We contacted them and asked if we could help by sending them money to buy food. Of course they said yes and told us that we were an answer to prayer because they didn’t have the financial resources to buy for all of the families that God had put on their heart. Because of your generous support, we were able to send them money for 5 food boxes.

We were really excited about helping out this ministry, but we really felt like we needed to give food away to needy families in our area. But again the question was how, so we contacted our landlord and asked him if he would mind if we gave away food from our house and also asked him if he knew of a way that we could find needy families in this area. He responded with “Of course you can give food away and yes my aunt used to do this, but because she is older her family wants her to stay inside. I will contact her and see if she can help you.” What an answer to prayer. God is so good!

Since then we have been working with our landlord’s aunt. We tell her how many boxes/bags of food that we want to giveaway and then she contacts the families with the most needs. We have found this runs very smoothly and we are so grateful to God for this connection. We pray that one day we will be able to meet her in person.

We also want to say thank you to each and everyone of you who has contributed to buying these boxes. We would not be able to give away as many boxes/bags of food without your support. During the month of April, in total we have given away 22 food boxes/bags to needy families.

Matthew 25:35,40 (NKJV) 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me a drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in 40 And the king will say, I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!

Miraculous Provision

Proverbs 19:17 (NLT) If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and He will repay you.

When we first felt led to giveaway food, we must admit that we were wondering how we were going to pay for it but we trusted God and knew He would provide. Here is a list of some of the miraculous ways that God has provided:

1. The first money that we gave to Hidden Treasures was all returned to us within 5 days.
2. After we had sent some food to grandma and the kids, we received a donation from a new donor and the donation amount was almost 10 times what we had spent.
3. Our landlord said he wanted to help, so he decreased our rent by $50.
4. On one of the days that we were shopping for the food an elderly gentleman came up to our car asking for about $2 to put with what money he had so he could buy a bag of rice. We reached in our backseat and handed him a bag of rice.
5. A company that sells all natural products partnered with us and is giving us $20 from each purchase of hand soap. We have been blown away by the goodness of God and when we have given out the food boxes/bags we tell the recipients that this food comes from God. We want God to get all of the credit. News From Around the World

Lastly, we would like to share with you some things that are happening in a few countries around the world. Due to where these countries are at we can not tell you their names, but the information comes from a Pastor friend of ours who has been working with these pastors. Please keep these countries in your prayers.

In one country they have 140,000 people starving and dying in the streets. They are ruling all of the ones that have died Corona-virus deaths so no one is willing to pick up these dead bodies for fear of getting the virus.

In another country there are pastors that have orphanages and they are in desperate need of food to feed these children.
